What I did when I wanted to rework my style was find a few reference styles that were the closest to what I wanted my art to look like, study them intensely (to the point of trying to exactly replicate the look of a piece or two from an art book), and then try to reintroduce the elements I wanted to change into the existing elements from my own style that I was already reasonably happy with.

But then, this was specifically for developing a cartooning style, where consistency is a lot more important than when you want to experiment with different looks. So I dunno how helpful it is.
