Omg, I'm posting again, IN THE SAME MONTH AS MY LAST ONE! Shh, I know it's just barely still March.

So Sakura-con is this weekeeeeeend~~ Sooooo excited! I really have to be careful this year given that I have a fandom like FMA again, in that it has shit-tons of merch XD; Must. Limit. Spending! Is it really obvious that I'm excited for the Dealer's room in particular? Hehehen, but I am for Artist Alley too! And High and Mighty Color, iiiiiii!

And just, guh, it's con in general. I need this break soooo bad right now. The beginning of the quarter is always killer. x_x

Ah, yes. Art. I'm so very dissatisfied with mine right now. So VERY dissatisfied. And yeah yeah, I do know I need to practice more and just draw, but it's the style itself that I'm unhappy with and I'm not sure how to tweak it or change it. I seem stuck in a rut in that sense. Blech. Any suggestions from the artists out there on what I could do to invigorate the whole look of my illustrations? Anything would be nice to hear because I don't like being frustrated every time I want to draw and see the other things in my sketchbook that I know aren't bad at all, but I don't want everything to look... I dunno. The same. XP I don't even know how to explain. Anyway, any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated!

What I did when I wanted to rework my style was find a few reference styles that were the closest to what I wanted my art to look like, study them intensely (to the point of trying to exactly replicate the look of a piece or two from an art book), and then try to reintroduce the elements I wanted to change into the existing elements from my own style that I was already reasonably happy with.

But then, this was specifically for developing a cartooning style, where consistency is a lot more important than when you want to experiment with different looks. So I dunno how helpful it is.

Nah, it is helpful. And I'd been thinking of doing just that, but I guess first I gotta decide in what way I want it to change. Which will take forever because I be really really indecisive and distracted by pretties easily! But thanks, it's sound advice ^____^

Omg, it was so hilarious, one of our previous Ryohei's just posted a captioned motivational picture of that page of the manga for his OOC intro post and it said: "The bears! LET ME FIGHT THEM!" or something like that.

I didn't even know who he was at the time but I just died and everyone else lost their shit. Funniest intro EVAR

Mmmm, pinpoint exactly what it is you feel is too samey and then work on varying it? Like, recently, I decided I drew people too samefacey, so I went and drew a bunch of heads, concentrating on varying their cheeks and chins and noses and such. Alternatively, scrap everything and start a new style from scratch. There are lots of ways to draw pretty much anything, and a different way of drawing something might work better for you than the way you're currently drawing it, and there's no real way to know that unless you try.

Yeah, figuring out just what exactly is frustrating me would be best first, but I do have that issue too. I feel like the heads and faces are all the same shape/general expressions so I could probably benefit from an exercise like that one.

I have found that when I try to draw things with a rough sketch/stick figures with building up the shape like every drawing book out there tells you to that I usually hate how things turn out. So yeah, I fully agree, different ways work for different people.
