Muraki is... straight?!

Just cause I feel like it and was inspired to write what I thought.

*shrugs*

Wow, that sounded all formal and stuff. lol.

Okay, I was reading a 'friend' of mine's journal. (I only say it like that cause I've only really spoken to her online and I dunno, didn't want to sound presumptious and call her my friend, I consider her one though.) In any case, in her journal was a link to a rant written for a Yaoi journal community. Now, in the midst of this rant (mostly speaking of how yaoi fans are flamed and called things and etc. I didn't even know about this e-bay thing, but I'm sorta scared now if they got yaoi forbidden from EBAY for a while...) there was a comment about other fans trying to support the idea of heterosexuality in Yami. As in, hetero couples are/should be/something more predominant than the yaoi and slash. Well...

As I said to a friend earlier is the only way that works is if Wakaba has them all in her own little harem. Damn lucky girl if she did.

Yami is shounen-ai, no doubts ifs ands or buts. Honestly. As I read on in the comments to the rant, some of these hetero Yami fans claim several things.

First one I'd like to address? Muraki being straight.

Now... I may get dirty looks for this, but I am an avid fan of Yami and want to say what I think. Muraki could very well be 'straight.' But it cannot be denied that he isn't attracted/wants Tsuzuki. Maybe to these people Tsu is an exception? Or they are just blind and deaf. *shrugs* Either way, Muraki wants a man. There is also the little fact that he raped a 13 year old boy. Does -anyone- remember the main character's partner? Sheesh. Muraki has had sex with at least one male in his lifetime, who wants to bet it has been more too?

I, personally, do not believe he is straight, I believe Muraki himself would see himself above such things as being straight, or being gay, hell even being bi. To him - he wants what he damn well wants and he'll do whatever it takes to get it too. Male, female, it wouldn't matter to him.

Then there is the always interesting relationship he has with Oriya. NO one knows what really goes on there. Thus the supporters of slash between the two. The author hasn't discounted it in any way. How could it be said to be wrong? And honestly, how could it be overlooked? Oriya has an obsessive loyalty to Muraki - somewhat frightening in its intensity. He knows exactly what his friend does to others, what he has done and he still stays by his side. Plenty of basis for something deeper than friendship there. If one doesn't like the idea they still have to bend to proof that Muraki wants Tsu and has had sex with Hisoka.

Doesn't mean he is gay though. Or straight. He kinda defies labels like that. After all, who wants to explain this whole Ukyou thing and want to say he's for sure gay either?

Second thing I want to address: People ignore Terazuma and Wakaba as a pairing...ummm who says Yami fans do that? *blinks* I love them as a pairing. Not much ON them as a pairing out there though. Which is sad. But I by no means, ignore them. And I doubt many other Yami fans do. One has to admit though, Wakaba and Terazuma are -side- characters. Bigger ones, yes, but still not main characters in the manga, -much- less the anime. Tsuzuki, Hisoka, Muraki, Tatsumi and Watari are GOING to have more things out there on them and gee, since they are all guys, its gonna be yaoi. If someone wants to see stuff about the two of them together that is VERY in character go check out The First Death. Wonderful fic - has lots of Terazuma in it and more of Wakaba than one normally ever sees in a fic. And they are still in character (which sorry to say doesn't necessarily mean they are together... he has Kuro-chan to deal with still after all).

Anyway, that is just my two cents on that. I mean... Yami has some very not cannon slash, yes. But a lot of it is easily reasonable too. Even to the point of cannon. So...

Sankyuu to Jo for her good points and debates on this topic. Very enjoyable to read as always - well thought out too.

Yeah, I'm rambling now. I just felt like venting that all after reading that.

I hate it when people don't listen to reason.

Eeeeeeeeeee!!

It's true that some men who rape boys do so out of a sense of power and dominance rather than sexual attraction, and thus could still identify themselves as straight. But this does NOTHING to detract from Muraki's infatuation with Tsuzuki. These are the same kinds of people who say that Fuuma, Subaru, Kamui, and Seishirou or straight- they can't bear the thought of a gay character that they like. The above four are the most fascinating characters in X and Muraki is one of the most fascinating characters in YnM, so they make the characters into something they aren't in order to justify liking them.

It very, very pathetic.
